Conducting
Danielle Cozart Steele, a sought-after choral conductor, currently helms Cincinnati’s Young Professionals Choral Collective, a dynamic 1200-member choral arts organization connecting young professionals and local businesses through innovative, life-changing musical experiences. Although Steele assumed this new role in the middle of a pandemic, her relentless optimism and creativity in the arts garnered the attention of Cincinnati media and arts professionals.
Mx. Steele formerly served as head of choral activities at IU East in Richmond, IN and as the assistant director for the World House Choir in Yellow Springs, OH. Her recent positions include Interim Director of Choral Activities at Earlham College, Interim Director of MUSE, Cincinnati’s Women’s Chorus, and Director of Education at Indianapolis Opera. Mx. Steele prioritizes women’s and minoritized voices in her programming. Her ensembles have toured the East Coast and Midwest, including performances in Chicago, Philadelphia, New York City, Boston and Washington D.C. Her programming, past and current, is with an eye toward social issues, activism, and the fostering of connection as a way of promoting social change.
Other musical activism-through-music is with Hope Through Harmony, a collaborative choral effort in the Dayton Correctional Institution for Women designed to build community and prevent recidivism. She has worked alongside founder Dr. Catherine Roma on several special projects in the Ohio prison system. Learn about The Hamilton Project.
